I am The Lucknow and this is my story

I am graceful
I am divine
I am beautiful.

As the Lakshmanpur I was born
After departure of The Ghazni,
I discovered myself as Lucknow
The Lucknow.

The Blood of Gomti runs in my veins
The Urdu resides in my heart
For tehzeeb, tazeem and tameez
I impart.

Besides myself respire the prosperous Awadh
India’s granary garden.

Ganga – Jamuni tehzeeb I adore
For here muslims compose bhajans-geet
And Hindus ghazals-nazm core.

With the Qaisarbagh palace
I celebrated Emperor’s spirit,
My soul got enriched with
The classical katthak and Rahas.

In The Rahas Manzil
the writings of Wajid Ali
And through the Rumi gate
I sing Rubai of Rumi.

Come quench your heart’s thirst
With kabab and biryani,
I serve dusk of Janeshwar
With the blend of Chaii Kashmiri.

The valour and courage
Of Begum Hazrat Mahal
I embraced,
During the 1857’s revolt
When I was drowned.

Here I arise
Celebrating the past
With my Lucknowites.

I, myself speak of my glory
For I am The Lucknow
And this is my story !
